Family-Friendly Wildflower Hikes
Join us on any monthly spring/summer wildflower hike, led by Karen Darling. Moderate. Mostly flat, but with some climbs. 3-mile loop; 3-4 hours, leisurely pace. (Children very welcome; parents of children under 5 may need to carry child for part.)
Park in either the VMRA lodge parking lot, or in the lot across Flaghole Road, just PAST the lodge driveway. Meet up at the Shaw Pond Trailhead Kiosk, on the same side of the road as the lodge, but just BEFORE the lodge driveway.
Well-behaved, non-aggressive dogs are welcome; owners responsible for packing out messes, and keeping pet on the trail, by voice command or leash.
Recommended to wear or bring WATER, good walking/hiking shoes (may get muddy), sun hat, layered clothing/poncho as needed, sunscreen, insect repellant, snacks. You may also want a camera, binoculars, hiking stick. (Hike leader will carry a First Aid kit and field guides.)
Each month, different wildflowers bloom, so every hike is different! (For instance, June will be height of pink ladyslippers!) On each hike we’ll take a break at Shaw Pond, to enjoy exploring that aquatic environment, and amenities of the Boy Scout Camp (i.e. outhouse, picnic table). We’ll focus on the Shaw Pond, Ringe, Loop, Elks and Peak trails.
Moderate rain cancels/postpones. If weather is questionable, or any other questions about the hike, call Karen: 603-770-1851.
HIKE SCHEDULE:
SUNDAY, MAY 15 – 2-5pm
MONDAY, JUNE 20 – 2-5pm
SUNDAY, JULY 10 – 9am-12pm
MONDAY, AUG 15 – 9am-12pm
